Schouwburg - de warande
On the walls of de Warande Schouwburg we are showing a series of exhibitions,getting closer to the women's rights from the MENA region,surprising women, daring comic artists not only subjects but also their drawing styles.
It is very difficult for women in the MENA to talk about their desire and body needs,but during the arab spring the Arab women started her own fight for her rights, amazing illustrators and comic novelists started to draw about this sensitive subjects depicting nudity,revolution, double standards and sexual taboos.
best known for her collection of drawing called the Hshouma project created in 2018, depicting nude women and calling out double standards and sexual taboos. Hshouma was first exhibited in Madrid, Spain. Her work aims to fight censorship, taboos and shame in Morocco.
Raphaelle was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon where she completed her studies in illustration and comics. Since 2012, she has been working as a freelancer in illustration, comics, graphic design, animation and advertising. She is an active member of the collective Samandal. She loves music, concerts and collects records impulsively. She is currently based in Paris where she is working on her first graphic novel.
Alaa Satir is a Sudanese cartoonist from Khartoum, graduated as an architect from the University of Khartoum. She is currently working as graphic designer, illustrator and cartoonist. Various offices and NGOs used her visual art. She made her first personal exhibition in 2017 called Morning Doodles, addressing topics like feminism, social media and politic. She also joined an exhibition in March 2018 for women’s right and gender-based violence, launched a new brand in June 2018 named Planet.B.
